CVE intelligence and bounded remediation
CVE-2022-50185 — Linux Linux Kernel security vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/radeon: fix potential buffer overflow in ni_set_mc_special_registers() The last case label can write two buffers 'mc_reg_address[j]' and 'mc_data[j]' with 'j' offset equal to SMC_NISLANDS_MC_REGISTER_ARRAY_SIZE since there are no checks for this value in both case labels after the last 'j++'. Instead of changing '>' to '>=' there, add the bounds check at the start of the second 'case' (the first one already has it). Also, remove redundant last checks for 'j' index bigger than array size. The expression is always false. Moreover, before or after the patch 'table->last' can be equal to SMC_NISLANDS_MC_REGISTER_ARRAY_SIZE and it seems it can be a valid value. Matched remediation archetype
Buffer bounds, memory safety, and memory corruption
This catalog composition supplies bounded fallback guidance. Explicitly reviewed curated workflows load with the complete record below.
Check exposure
- Identify affected native-code versions, build flags, architectures, parsers, codecs, drivers, and input paths in all shipped artifacts.
- Determine whether untrusted data reaches the affected routine and the process privilege, sandbox, and network exposure.
- Confirm statically linked, vendored, firmware, and platform-provided copies, not only package-manager records.
Remediate safely
- Apply the maintained upstream correction or replace the affected component, then rebuild every dependent artifact from clean inputs.
- Adopt bounds-checked interfaces, validated sizes and integer conversions, clear ownership, and memory-safe components where practical.
- Enable supported compiler and runtime hardening and add sanitized tests and fuzz regression seeds derived from non-weaponized fixtures.
